Creating Safe and Vibrant Places to Socialize

Downtown is an integral part of Rock Island. It has a core base of employers, housing developments and hospitality businesses. The Arts and Entertainment District is a known brand within the Quad City market.

A Downtown Strategic Plan was adopted in 2006.  One of the objectives identified was to evaluate nightlife activities and make recommendations for changes that would enhance the downtown as an inviting and safe place for people to socialize.  The City staff and the staff of Renaissance Rock Island have researched other urban entertainment areas and collected information from many business owners in the hospitality industry downtown.

On May 21st, the Rock Island City Council authorized a contract with the Responsible Hospitality Institute to conduct a Hospitality Zone Assessment.  It is expected that this assessment will engage many stakeholders in the important process of identifying problems and solutions.”
