Downtown Stockton in Transition

Downtown Stockton has seen an amazing transformation in the past ten years.

Historic restorations of the Bob Hope Theatre and the Hotel Stockton, along with the single largest redevelopment project in the State of California - the Stockton Events Center - with waterfront baseball park, arena and Stockton Sheraton at Regent Pointe, have all contributed to the new life and energy in downtown.

The opening of the City Centre Cinemas and parking facilities to serve it, has encouraged people to rediscover the city after dark and plans are underway to create an historic Arts & Entertainment District to spur development of downtown housing and a 24/7 environment to attract and keep the "creative class," backbone of our future workforce.

Creating this District "from the ground up" will provide incentives for development of extended-hour and mixed-use spaces and recruitment of experienced business operators. Safeguards will be built in to avoid or mitigate many of the common conflicts experienced in these Districts, such as noise, trash, security and parking.
